A fire incident in the Tumfure Quarters of Gombe State has destroyed a two-bedroom flat and a three-bedroom detached house.
In a statement released on Tuesday, ASF Bashir Muazu, the Public Relations Officer for the Federal Fire Service (Gombe State Command), confirmed the destruction. Muazu noted that while the structures suffered heavy damage, the fire was successfully contained thanks to the “swift response and professionalism” of the firefighting teams on-site.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries reported in the blaze.
Muazu explained that the fire crews acted immediately upon receiving the distress call, successfully isolating the flames to the initial buildings. He credited their rapid arrival with saving the surrounding neighborhood from further destruction.
Following a preliminary evaluation, the Fire Service estimated that while the blaze resulted in approximately ₦5 million in losses, the team’s intervention protected property valued at roughly ₦25 million.
Muazu expressed his gratitude for the seamless cooperation between the Federal Fire Service, the Gombe State Fire Service, and officers from the Tumfure Divisional Police Station, noting that their joint efforts were vital to the mission’s success.
In the wake of the incident, the Service issued a strong appeal to the public to adopt better safety habits. Muazu stressed the importance of routine electrical inspections, avoiding fire-prone activities, and keeping extinguishers or other basic firefighting tools on hand. “Prevention remains the most effective way to reduce fire incidents,” he cautioned.
This disaster follows a similar emergency on Monday in Kano State, where a fire swept through portions of the renowned Singa Market, causing significant damage to various sections of the commercial hub.
