A high-capacity commercial bus erupted in flames on the Third Mainland Bridge on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in heavy traffic congestion for motorists heading toward Iyana Oworo. According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the fire broke out around 1:00 p.m. near the Adekunle axis. LASTMA officials confirmed via their official X account that the blaze significantly impeded the flow of vehicles on the busy artery.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, are currently on-site battling the blaze on the Third Mainland Bridge. LASTMA confirmed that while firefighters work to extinguish the high-capacity bus, traffic officers are actively managing the resulting gridlock. Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of casualties as of Tuesday afternoon.
While emergency teams have successfully intervened, the underlying cause of the blaze remains a mystery. Authorities have yet to determine what triggered the fire in the high-capacity bus near the Adekunle axis, and a formal investigation is expected to follow once the scene is fully cleared.
