The Enugu State Police Command has officially confirmed the arraignment of Mrs. Chisom Okonkwo, who had previously accused her husband of defiling and raping their two daughters. According to SP Daniel Ndukwe, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Okonkwo reported the matter but could not prove her allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.
The investigation revealed a stunning reversal: the couple’s elderly child provided a written statement and video evidence to the police, claiming their father never committed the offense and that their mother had coached them to lie against him. Ndukwe stated that the complaint was lodged on October 25, 2025, at the Emene Police Division, where Chisom Okonkwo (aged 29) alleged her husband, Okonkwo Ozioma, was defiling their five- and three-year-old daughters and threatening her life if she spoke out.
However, police investigations concluded that the allegations were false and misleading. The investigation specifically revealed that the periods in 2024 and 2025 during which Chisom alleged the offenses occurred contradicted her claims, as those were the same times she had traveled alone with all the children to their hometown in Imo State.
Ndukwe further explained that the investigation was conclusive because the couple’s seven-year-old son provided two separate handwritten voluntary statements in which he exonerated his father and revealed that his mother had coached him and his sisters to make false accusations. This testimony was corroborated by video evidence.
Consequently, Mrs. Okonkwo was arraigned before the Magistrate Court of Enugu State on a two-count charge of defamation and giving false information. The police spokesperson confirmed that the court granted her bail, and the case was adjourned for further hearing.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Mamman Bitrus Giwa commended the State Intelligence Department detectives for their thorough and impartial investigation into the case. CP Giwa reinforced the Command’s commitment to fairness, justice, and professionalism in all matters, warning that any complainant found to have brought false or malicious allegations will be prosecuted according to the law.
