Police Commissioner Declares Anambra “Free and Peaceful,” Urges Indigenes to Return for Christmas.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has issued a fervent call for all indigenes in the diaspora to return en masse for the upcoming Christmas celebrations.
Speaking Sunday night, November 9, following what was widely regarded as the state’s most peaceful gubernatorial election, the Commissioner confidently declared Anambra “free and peaceful,” citing the successful poll as proof of the command’s security effectiveness. CP Orutugu, who took command nine months ago, assured that deliberate and proactive policing has made the state secure for everyone: “Anambra is a safe place. Prepare and come home for Christmas.”
Known for his community-driven approach, the Commissioner emphasized his strategy of “policing without guns,” explaining his focus is on managing emotions through counseling and appeals.
He achieved this security boost by first strengthening collaboration with traditional rulers, youth groups, and religious leaders to foster early intelligence sharing and build public trust, ensuring all local governments remain relatively safe.
Acknowledging the success of his flashpoint deployment strategy, Commissioner Orutugu assured the public that all flashpoints and border communities are covered by the security architecture, guaranteeing safety for everyone. On accountability, the Commissioner stressed a zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct, extortion, or abuse of power, insisting that professionalism and respect for human rights remain central to policing in Anambra.
He concluded with a strong message for the holiday season: “Residents and indigenes returning home for the festive season can expect a visible security presence, rapid response readiness, and a policing system designed to safeguard lives and property.”
He asserted that through a mix of community engagement and strategic deployments, “Anambra has emerged as a model for peace and security in the region.” His final invitation was clear: “Anambra is ready for the festive season. Come home.”
