FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, promised FCT residents a secure Christmas and New Year celebration, simultaneously warning that criminals who target critical infrastructure will be addressed. According to a statement from command spokesperson Monica Ojobi, the NSCDC is working diligently to protect national assets and ensure a hitch-free holiday. Odumosu confirmed the deployment of undercover and specialised squad personnel who are conducting continuous surveillance and patrolling “dark spots across the metropolis” to thwart criminal activity. He also offered public safety advice, urging commuters to avoid “one-chance operators” by using designated motor parks and traceable commercial vehicles.
Addressing the issue of kidnappings, Commandant Odumosu urged FCT residents to be proactive by following their “inner instinct,” avoiding movement at night or in lonely places, and ensuring they keep loved ones informed of their whereabouts at all times. He then issued a stern warning to potential criminals: “Those with criminal motives in the FCT should have a rethink, relocate, or be ready to face the full weight of the law as my personnel will not renege in their dogged resolve to keep vandals and criminals out of the city.” Finally, residents were called upon to report suspicious activities, particularly the tampering with critical infrastructure such as electric cables, water pipelines, telecommunication masts, and crash barriers.
Commandant Odumosu instructed the public to utilize the nearest NSCDC office or the Command’s hotlines for prompt response to emergencies. He issued a final, serious warning regarding the vandalization of infrastructure, noting that attacks on crash barriers “will not be treated with levity.” He specifically cautioned drivers and scavengers to “steer clear,” warning them that if found in possession of stolen materials, “the full weight of the law will be brought upon them.”
