The Osun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the mysterious death of a guard, Basiru Aminu, who was discovered dead at his workplace in the Oke Ola area of Igbaye, Osun State.
Town sources reported that Aminu’s motionless body was found by community members around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, who subsequently alerted the police. However, Osun Command Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed on Tuesday that officers did not find any marks of violence on the deceased’s body, despite the ongoing probe to unravel the mystery of his death.
Police Public Relations Officer Abiodun Ojelabi initially characterized the guard’s death as “a sudden and natural death.” He explained that the deceased, Basiru Aminu, was found lying dead at his security post in Oke-Ola, Igbaye, after a resident, Fasasi Adebowale, alerted Aminu’s brother. Ojelabi confirmed that officers who investigated the scene found no marks of violence on the body. He concluded, however, that the “investigation is still ongoing,” and that the command “on our own part, an autopsy might be conducted.”
The incident reportedly caused panic throughout the community, leading to various insinuations regarding the cause of death. Residents held divergent theories: while some speculated that the 38-year-old guard might have been strangled, others believed that his death was caused by sudden health complications.
The unidentified body was reportedly dumped at the location in the early hours, causing fear among locals who subsequently avoided the entire area.
