The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed a massive, multiple-vehicle crash on Kara Bridge, inbound Mowe, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The Thursday incident, announced via LASTMA’s official X handle, sparked a major fire outbreak and caused severe traffic congestion.
The crash involved a truck and a container-laden trailer that went up in flames, another truck that spilled its entire load of biscuit cartons across the road and a separate container truck that crashed into the bridge barrier, sending its container carrier falling into the river.
LASTMA confirmed eight casualties and noted that emergency responders were working to recover and clear the affected vehicles.
A multiple-vehicle crash on Kara Bridge (inward Mowe) has completely blocked the road. The incident involved several heavy vehicles: a truck and a container-laden trailer burst into flames; a separate container truck crashed into the barrier, sending its carrier plunging into the river; and another truck spilled its cargo of biscuit cartons across the highway. Authorities have confirmed eight casualties and efforts are underway to recover and clear the wreckage.
The crash has caused a significant traffic backlog stretching all the way from Kara Bridge to Ogunnusi Road on the expressway. In response, LASTMA urged motorists to be patient and seek alternative routes. Currently, LASTMA personnel, Police officers, and other emergency teams are working to clear the spilled contents (biscuits and other goods).
Recovery is imminent, with a high-capacity tow truck and SEMA ambulance already on site, and a Crane machine expected soon to help recover all burnt and affected vehicles.
