Security Alert: Anambra Police Warm against on Vehicles Operating Without Plate Numbers Ahead of Polls.

The Anambra State Police Command, through Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu, has issued a strict security warning ahead of the November 8 governorship election. Citing the practice as a “serious security threat,” the CP announced that the police will no longer tolerate the use of vehicles operating without official number plates or with their registration numbers deliberately covered.
The command warned that such vehicles are often exploited by criminals to commit and escape crimes. All area commanders and DPOs have been directed to intensify patrols and implement stop-and-search operations to ensure full compliance, with offenders facing prosecution and their vehicles being impounded.
The public is strongly encouraged to cooperate with security agencies and immediately report any suspicious activity using the emergency lines: 112 or 07039194332.
The security meeting, hosted by the Police Command Headquarters in Awka, was held under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES). The gathering served to review and finalize the security blueprint for the upcoming polls, with Commissioner Orutugu stressing that police commitment, inter-agency synergy, and intelligence sharing are crucial for ensuring a violence-free election.
CP Orutugu emphasized that successful election security demands professionalism, neutrality, and dedication from all participants. The meeting saw strong support from sister agencies—including the Nigerian Army, DSS, NSCDC, FRSC, NDLEA, NIS, Fire Service, and Correctional Service—who collectively pledged their readiness to operate under the unified ICCES framework.
Furthermore, the Command confirmed the establishment of a dedicated Situation Room at the headquarters, which will function as the central hub for real-time monitoring, coordination, and rapid response to any security incidents during the poll.
