China Reaffirms Support for Nigeria’s Sovereignty, Warns International Community Against Interference.

China called on the international community to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty following a threat of military action from the United States. The Chinese government reiterated its support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, praising it for steering the country along a development path tailored to its national conditions.

This stance was relayed by Mao Ning, Spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, at a press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday, according to a report from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, People’s Republic of China’s website.

Speaking about Nigeria, Spokesperson Mao Ning stressed that “As Nigeria’s strategic partner, China opposes any attempt by foreign powers to use religion or human rights as a pretext to meddle in another country’s internal affairs or impose sanctions and military threats.”

This statement directly addressed the recent threat from the US, where then-President Donald Trump suggested deploying military forces in Nigeria if the alleged persecution of Christians was not halted.
