CAF Launches Investigation into AFCON Quarter-Final Misconduct The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has opened a formal probe into alleged misconduct during the high-stakes 2025 AFCON quarter-finals. The investigation focuses on incidents following the Nigeria vs. Algeria and Cameroon vs. Morocco matches, where reports surfaced of players and officials confronting referees and causing disruptions in post-match zones.

CAF confirmed on Monday that it has handed over match reports and video evidence to its Disciplinary Board to determine if “unacceptable behavior” took place and to issue potential sanctions.

CAF Scrutinizes Media Conduct Amid Nigeria-Algeria Post-Match Chaos The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed it is reviewing footage of an incident involving journalists who allegedly misbehaved in the “mixed zone” following the weekend’s quarter-final fixtures.

The investigation follows a high-tension clash in Marrakech where Nigeria secured a 2–0 victory over Algeria, thanks to second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams. Despite the Super Eagles’ clinical performance, the match ended in turmoil as Algerian players and staff aggressively confronted officials on the pitch, while security forces were forced to intervene to stop a potential pitch invasion by frustrated fans.

Algeria and Cameroon Lodge Formal Complaints Over AFCON Refereeing The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has filed a formal protest with CAF, citing “biased” officiating by Senegalese referee Issa Sy during their 2–0 loss to Nigeria.

The complaint centers on several disputed calls, most notably a first-half penalty claim for a handball in the Nigerian box that went unreviewed by VAR. Similarly, Cameroon has expressed grievances following their 2–0 defeat to Morocco, pointing to two unawarded penalties involving Moroccan defender Adam Masina. While Morocco’s coach, Walid Regragui, has dismissed allegations of host-nation favoritism, CAF has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for misconduct, strongly condemning any post-match aggression directed at officials.

CAF has warned that it will pursue firm disciplinary measures against any individuals whose actions violated the tournament’s code of conduct.
